Federal Road Safety and Nigerian Roads

According to the law establishing the Federal Road Safety Commission, the STATUTORY FUNCTIONS

are as follows:

1. Making the highway safe for motorists and other road users.
2. Recommending works and devices designed to eliminate or minimize accidents on the highways and advising the Federal and State Governments including the Federal Capital Territory Administration and relevant governmental agencies on the localities where such works and devices are required, and
3. Educating motorists and members of the public on the importance of discipline on the highway.

But taking into consideration the nature of Nigeria High ways, how far is the FRSC coping with its primary assignment of making our roads safe.

It is a true statement that the roads are not safe, so how can this government agency live up to its establishment.

And again being a federal government agency, are they justified in arrest and fine of motorists when the road itself is not safe.

I think they should first ask the federal government to fix the federal roads before they impound people's vehicles.
